I have to let you know why getting your own set of dog house plans, and building it yourself is the best thing you will ever do for your dog. This past year my store purchased doghouse completely failed on my poor dog. I'd just purchased it less than a year ago and paid an arm and a leg for it. I was in the house making tea the morning after a big downpour and was startled by my poor pup howling. I went outside to check and everything seemed okay except for the fact that she wouldn't go close to her doghouse. I walked over to check it and noticed that the roof was leaking at a rapid pace. Needless to say I was livid.
In no way is 1 year an ample period of time for a doghouse to last especially when you pay a few hundred dollars for it. I knew I was out of luck when it came to a replacement or refund.
After getting over my anger, I knew I had to make a decision. Eightball loves being outdoors, but more importantly she loved her dog house. At first I almost ran back to my friendly neighborhood big box hardware store, but that was the same thing that had gotten me into this scenario in the first place. I knew I wasn't really the handiest guy on earth, but I did have a small amount of experience with woodworking, and thought building a doghouse couldn't be too hard. I went to the computer and started to look for do it yourself dog house plans. I looked at a lot of free plans but most of them were really bad, or the plans weren't detailed enough. Now that I had my materials, and dog house plans in hand I knew it was time to get started. It was much easier and fun than I ever thought, considering it was my first real do it yourself wood working project (I've since built sheds, and picnic tables when I realized how easy and fun it is). My pup's new doghouse now has great insulation, is large enough for the neighbors dog to join her, and also has tinted windows....overkill I know but I like it, and she really loves it. The overall cost of this project, including the dog house plans from http://diysmallshedplans.info was less than half what I paid for her tinier, badly designed dog house the past year. Finding my own dog house plans was definitely one of the best decisions I have made in very long time.
